I wanted to start a blog for my family and friends to browse and keep up to date with the Petty happenings. I am going to start the first post with a year in review. 2011 has went by very quickly and some life changing things have certainly happened to our growing famiy.
We started the year off right with a cruise the first week of February for Ben's graduation from his MBA program. It was amazing! We went to the Bahamas (Nassau and Freeport) and Key West during the seven day cruise. Our favorite excursion was renting scooters and going around the entire island of Key West. I kept leaving Ben in the dust and he was very worried about me. In Freeport, we went on a Jeep excursion and our tire to our Jeep fell off as we were going down the highway. Talk about funny and scary all at the same time!
In May, I got a new job at Vanston Middle School teaching 7th grade math. I was very excited and very scared to leave Kimball. The hardest part was leaving my work friends, the kids, and the comfort of home feeling I got upon entering. I was able to make a smooth move with the help of Amanda, Dixie, and Whitney.
After many talks about wanting kids and when to start expanding our family, Ben and I decided that 2011 would be a great time in our life to take the big step. On July 19, 2011 after I had been on a long weekend vacation with my mom, my grandma, and my cousins, something prompted me to take a pregnancy test. We had one laying around so I decided to try it out. After a couple of minutes I went to look at it and saw two faint lines. When Ben got home from work I told him that he needed to go look at something in the bathroom. He came out beaming! After two more tests later, we finally believed that we were going to have a new additon to our family! This is where our pregnancy began!
The first trimester was rough but it could have been a whole lot worse! I was really blessed by so many more great days than bad days.
In October, my mom, dad, and Ben went to Ft.Lauderdale, FL. Ben was really nervous for me to fly but it was not that bad. He let me have the isle and I took lots of stretch breaks. However, once we got there I was sick for the first day of the vacation. This is the first trip that was not what we were expecting at all. It rained 5 out of the 7 days we were there! It put a damper on what we could done but I do have to say that we were relaxed after sitting around a couple of days. Ben and I ended up going to Disney World and had a great time. It was nice to go without a kid but it was also cool because we were able to take notes for when we bring Kaylie back. I really want to go back to Florida when it isn't estimated to rain forever!
One of the best parts about 2011 was when we found out that we were having a GIRL! I have always wanted a girl but when I found out I was pregnant I told myself it was a boy so I would not get my hopes up. We went back and forth about boy names and could not come to any conclusion as to the name. The front runner was Karson Drew but none of the parents seemed to be thrilled about it. We had already had a girl name picked out before I was even pregnant. I had always wanted to name a girl Kassidy and Ben liked it but I decided that we needed to pick out a name together. One weekend this summer we were throwing around names as we were relaxing in the hot tub. I told him that I had heard of the name Kaylie and I really liked it. I didn't tell him where it was from because it was from a show I watch that he hates. When the sono tech told us it was a girl, Ben said, "what are you sure." He was shocked!! We both wanted a girl so we were beyond thrilled and so blessed!
The second trimester went by extremely fast and I was able to get my energy back and enjoy doing things like normal. Thanksgiving and Christmas kept me busy and not thinking about how much longer I had to go during pregnancy.
Ben has been a huge help this entire time! He does all the cleaning, most of the cooking, and walks Jack! What more could I ask for? The perfect package!
We are both very excited to see what 2012 has to offer! We wish our friends and family a happy and healthy new year!
